Additional investment in Heard County

Tenaska, with a presence in Heard County for nearly 30 years, is considering an additional natural gas-fueled power plant in the area. Similar to the existing Tenaska Georgia Generating Station, this facility would add reliability to the regional electric grid amid growing power demand, as well as generate jobs, tax revenue and other local economic benefits.

Proposed Enon Grove Generating Station

Tenaska is developing up to 1,700 megawatts (MW) of simple-cycle generation that would operate during times of peak demand. Natural gas remains the cleanest fossil fuel for power generation, and the market need for natural gas generation is growing amid greater demands from data centers and an influx of renewables like wind and solar that provide intermittent power.

Tenaska has identified a location near the existing Tenaska Georgia Generating Station for this effort, named Enon Grove Generating Station. This project is not intended to replace Tenaska Georgia, which has been well maintained and has many years of operational life ahead.

On our current timeline, we anticipate a two-year development period. Assuming we obtain all necessary permits and approvals, the earliest construction start would be in 2027.

Decades of responsible energy generation

Tenaska has been a good business neighbor in Heard County for nearly three decades. We have built positive relationships here and feel like a welcomed and valued member of the community.

Since 2001, Tenaska Georgia Generating Station has operated in a safe and responsible manner, earning more than 65 awards from the National Safety Council while also providing stable jobs and tax revenue. The plant team collaborates with community leaders, first responders, the chamber, schools and more, and we intend any new project in the area to continue our commitment to collaborating with and investing in this community.

  • Benefitting Heard County’s economy

For decades, Tenaska Georgia Generating Station has provided stable and reliable economic benefits to Heard County. We believe an additional natural gas-fueled power plant will bring similar, if not greater, benefits to the area. Tenaska has commissioned an economic impact study to quantify the benefits of the proposed Enon Grove Generating Station.*

  • During construction

Construction of the facility is expected to span three years and generate a direct economic impact in Heard County of $544 million.

    This includes:
3,989 jobs, with approximately $184 million in labor income
$330 million in contributions to the county’s Gross Regional Product
    $12.6 million in tax revenue

  • Long-term impact

Once operating, the facility is expected to have an annual direct economic impact in Heard County in excess of $30 million.

    This includes:
6 full-time jobs, with approximately $1 million in labor income
$18 million in contributions to the county’s Gross Regional Product
Millions of dollars in local tax revenue**

  • *The study was conducted by Boyette Strategic Advisors, modeling the benefits of a smaller facility (850 MW).

**The project is negotiating a Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) agreement with Heard County that will enable this investment yet generate millions of dollars in local tax revenue.
