Additional investment in Heard County
The Tenaska Georgia Generating Station has been in Heard County for nearly 30 years, and our company is considering additional natural gas-fueled power plants in the area. Similar to the existing station, these facilities would add reliability to the regional electric grid amid growing power demand, as well as generate jobs, tax revenue and other local economic benefits.
Proposed Tenaska Enon Grove Generating Station
Tenaska is evaluating the development of up to 1,600 megawatts (MW) of simple-cycle peaking generation that would operate during times of peak demand. Natural gas remains the cleanest fossil fuel for power generation, and the market demand for natural gas generation is growing amid an influx of renewables like wind and solar that provide intermittent power.
Tenaska has identified a location near the existing Tenaska Georgia plant for this effort, named Tenaska Enon Grove Generating Station. Each facility would be similar in design, layout and size to the existing Tenaska Georgia Generating Station, which is a simple-cycle peaking station that operates in times of peak demand to ensure the reliability of the regional transmission grid.
This project is not intended to replace Tenaska Georgia Generating Station, which has been well maintained and has many years of operational life ahead. On our current timeline, we anticipate a two-year development period. Assuming we obtain all necessary permits and approvals, the earliest construction start would be in 2026.
Decades of responsible energy generation
Tenaska has been a good business neighbor in Heard County for more than two decades. We have built positive relationships here and feel like a welcomed and valued member of the community.
Since 2001, Tenaska Georgia Generating Station has operated in a safe and responsible manner, earning an impressive 65 awards from the National Safety Council while also providing stable jobs and tax revenue. The plant team collaborates with community leaders, first responders, the chamber, schools and more, and we intend any new project in the area to continue our commitment to collaborating with and investing in this community.
The proposed Tenaska Enon Grove Generating Station would be additive to the benefits provided by our Georgia Generating Station and is not intended to replace it. We look forward to working with the Heard County community to make this additional investment a reality.
-
Benefitting Heard County’s economy
Construction and operation of a new natural gas-fueled peaking plant would generate economic benefits similar to those of Tenaska Georgia Generating Station.
-
Creates job opportunities
During construction of our first facility, approximately 180 jobs were created per month, on average, over the 30-month construction period. Approximately $14 million in wages (2001 dollars) were paid to Georgia workers.
-
Supports long-term employment
Operation of the facility provides jobs for 11 employees. In 2023 this resulted in $2.8 million in employee salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors.
-
Boosts tax revenue
Since the start of operation, the facility has paid $4.3 million in local property taxes.
-
Invests in this community
The plant and its employees have supported various local efforts and organizations through volunteer hours and/or monetary support.
